Just before 1100 hrs, Company 6, Brush 5, and Mini-Pumper 7 were dispatched for a brush fire in Butler Twp on Goldenville Road in the area of the railroad tracks in Box Area 6-1. As units were responding, Adams County Control advised they were getting ready to dispatch a second brush fire also in Butler Twp, in the area of the 3100 block of Biglerville Road in Box Area 6-5. Company 4 was dispatched at 1103 hrs on the second brush fire to replace the units already committed to the first fire. Brush 4 and Engine 4-1 responded with 7 personnel. By the time Company 4 units arrived, several other units had diverted from the first fire to the second and advised to make access using a dirt road running through the Knouse Foods property off of N Hanover St, just north of the borough line. B4 worked with Company 27 units to mop-up around the south edge of the fire while Engine 4-1 deployed the 300' 1" preconnect to work on hitting the central area and northern edge. Company 4 units were available at 1211 hrs.
The two fires were located approximately 2 miles apart with the same set of train tracks run directly through the areas of both fires, so the fires were presumably set by a passing train. Units: E6-1, E6-2, T6, B5, MP7, E7-2, B4, E4-1, B27, SU27, B19, E1-1, AMB 6A-1, AMB 9A |
