ONE INTO A TREE

January 27, 2009
Cashtown Fire was alerted at 0833 hrs in the midst of another snowstorm for an rather unusual engine transfer to Franklin County Company 8 (Marion FD) while their crews assisted with a multi-alarm apartment building fire in Fort Loudon, Franklin County. Although a crew did gather, it was decided not to handle the transfer due to road conditions, limited daytime manpower, and other area departments being already committed to assisting in Franklin County. At 0942 hrs, Company 4, Rescue 1, and Ambulance 2A were dispatched for a vehicle accident with minor injuries. The collision was reported to be in the 2200 block of Hilltown Road in Box Area 4-2. Squad 4 promptly responded with 5 personnel and checked the reported location along with Chief 4 to find no accident. While proceeding to check the other end of Hilltown Road, Adams County advised the caller made mention to being close to the "one-lane bridge" which is located about 3 miles east in the 1000 blk of Hilltown Road in Box Area 4-5. All units were rerouted to the correct location and arrived to find a single passenger car into a tree with one patient suffering minor injuries. SQ4 started patient care and had the patient packaged and ready for transport by the time Amb 2A arrived on the scene. R1 assisted and units cleared the scene by 1016 hrs.

Units: Squad 4, Rescue 1, Ambulance 2A

1st DUE BOX FOR THE STOVE FIRE

January 29, 2009
The pre-alert for Box 4-5 was sounded at 1940 hours for a stove fire at 84 Fairview Fruit Road in Franklin Twp. Assistant Chief 4 (Mayers) marked up on the air and was advised the stove fire was now reported out. A/C 4 arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to find a single family dwelling with normal conditions from the exterior and investigated to confirm a cooking fire on the stove that had been extinguished. The box was quickly reduced to Company 4 only. The stove fire caused minor superficial damage to the cabinetry above the stove. Personnel checked the area with the TIC confirming no extension, removed the stove from the structure, and E4-1 set up the electric vent fan to exhaust smoke from the residence. Company 4 cleared the scene at 2015 hrs.

Units: Engine 4-1, Squad 4

FULLY INVOLVED VEHICLE FIRE

January 31, 2009
Company 4 and Ambulance 2A were dispatched at 0203 hrs to 1936 Hilltown Road in Box Area 4-2 for a vehicle fire. Shortly after Engine 4-1 and Deputy Chief 4 (Nagle) went en route, FP 4-1 (Fire Police Captain) arrived on the scene advising there was a fully involved vehicle on fire about 10 feet from a structure. D/C 4 requested that an additional engine be added to the assignment, bringing Engine/Tanker 27. E4-1 arrived on the scene to find a Chevrolet Trailblazer on fire in the driveway close to a storage shed with no extension to the structure. A crosslay was deployed and the fire was quickly extinguished by Company 4 personnel while Amb 2A evaluated a possible burn patient. The fire marshal (FM1 - Herring) was requested to the scene for investigation and units cleared at 0322 hrs.
