Company 4, Engine 1-1, Truck 1, Engine/Tanker 27, and Ambulance 1A were dispatched at 1536 hrs for a garage fire at 490 Tillietown Rd. E4-1 (FF Strasbaugh) and E4-3 (FF Brown) responded with 7 personnel and were met at the scene by six additional personnel. E4-1 arrived to find a 25' x 25' single story garage with fire showing through the siding on Side B and established Command. E4-3 arrived shortly thereafter. Cashtown crews deployed an attack line, forced entry, and placed a knock on the fire as E1-1, TK1, ET27, and R1 (dispatched to fill the box) arrived and assisted with opening up the ceiling and pulling the exterior siding and walls on Side B. Captain 4 (Six) arrived on the scene and assumed Command. The fire was under control at 1557 hrs. There was some minor vertical extension, but the fire was mainly contained to the area of origin due to being caught and reported in its early stages by a neighbor.

The fire marshal (FM1) was requested to the scene and Company 4 units remained to assist with the investigation. The cause was determined to have been electrical in nature. The box was placed in service at 1642 hrs.

RURAL WATER SUPPLY SEMINAR

June 5-6, 2010
Three CCFD members (FFs Adam Brown, TJ Pritt, and Brent Strasbaugh) attended a weekend rural water supply seminar sponsored by the Adams County Volunteer Emergency Services Association (ACVESA). The seminar was conducted by GBW Associates of Westminster, MD and was held at the Adams County Emergency Services Training Facility. Saturday was an all-day lecture presentation in preparation of the hands-on training that was held on Sunday. Apparatus and personnel from around Adams County as well as Carroll County, MD participated in the drill. The goal was to establish an uninterrupted water supply by shuttling water with tankers. Once the fill sites and dump sites were established and operational, the attack pumper was able to maintain an approximate 750 gpm flow rate for over 2 hours. In the mock dispatch scenario, Engine 4-3 was dispatched as the water supply pumper on the second "tanker task force" and established a fill site at a hydrant on V-Twin Drive adjacent to the Adams-Wellspan Health Center.

ACVESA has been conducting some excellent training programs for the volunteer firefighters of Adams County. All personnel are encouraged to visit the ACVESA training page to view and enroll in upcoming events.

A VISIT FROM THE NORTH

June 30, 2010
Members received a visit from Cumberland County Tanker 25 at the behest of the tanker committee, which is actively working to draw up specs for a new piece of apparatus. The demonstration was very helpful and many good ideas were picked up from the unit. We would like to thank the Monroe Fire Company and Chief Dave Heckert for travelling down to spend an evening with us. We would also like to thank the Biglerville Hose & Truck Co for bringing Tanker 6 to our station several weeks earlier for a demo.
