SQUAD 4 ON THE WORKING FIRE DISPATCH

October 6, 2010
Quincy Twp, Franklin County
Box Area 16-5
Squad 4 was dispatched at 0441 hrs to Vision Quest at 1011 Rocky Mountain Road South to assist with a trailer fire. SQ4 (Chief Nagle) responded with three personnel and upon arrival was assigned to assist with overhaul operations. SQ4 was available at 0704 hrs.

BACK TO FRANKLIN COUNTY

Guilford Twp, Franklin County
Box Area 16-1
Engine 4-1 was dispatched at 1048 hrs to transfer to South Mountain while they assisted with a hazardous materials incident on Interstate 81 in Franklin County. E4-1 transferred with three personnel and was released at 1155 hrs with no calls handled.

BRUSH FIRE

Brush 4 was dispatched at 2019 hrs and Engine 4-1 was dispatched at 2027 hrs to assist Company 5 with the extinguishment of an outside fire at 1030 Fairview Fruit Rd. B4 (Chief Nagle) and E4-1 (A/C Markel) responded with six personnel. Both units assisted with extinguishment and E4-1 also hauled water from a hydrant on Chestnut St in Arendtsville Boro. The fire started as a controlled burn but began to spread out of control due to high winds. Crews from Companies 4, 5, and 6 extinguished the fire and Company 4 units were available by 2155 hrs.

ONE INJURED IN US 30 CRASH

At 2256 hrs, units were dispatched for one vehicle into a utility pole in the 4200 block of Chambersburg Rd with one injured. SQ4 (Chief Nagle) and E4-1 (A/C Markel) responded with ten personnel and arrived to confirm dispatch. The vehicle was secured and patient care was initiated until the arrival of EMS units. E5-1 was released shortly after arrival to handle a medical call on Boyer Nursery Rd with AMB6A and M28-2. Once the ambulance departed the scene with the patient, Company 4 returned to service at 2339 hrs.

BUILDING FIRE AT SCOOTER'S TAVERN

October 22, 2010

The box alarm was dispatched at 1401 hrs for a working building fire at Scooter's Mountainside Tavern at 4587 Chambersburg Rd, alerting Companies 4, 5, 27, and Ambulance 2A. Captain 4 (Six) checked on the air and was advised that multiple calls had been received as well as a report of possible entrapment. He arrived on the scene first with a working fire on the second and third floors of the three-story mixed use structure and established Command. Adams County was advised to start three additional tankers, one additional truck company, and replace all failed units on the initial assignment. Engine 4-1 (FF S. Bowling) arrived with three personnel followed closely by Tower 5 and the crews worked together to initiate an interior attack as additional units continued to arrive. Additional handlines were deployed and roof operations were completed by Truck 1. A fill site was established at the Village of Laurel Run by Rescue 1.

After getting a knock on the fire, crews continued working for several hours opening up and performing thorough overhaul operations on the second and third floors and salvage on the first floor. The second and third floors sustained heavy fire and smoke damage while the bar, located on the first floor, sustained severe water damage. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries, but one dog did perish in the fire. American Red Cross was on the scene to assist the displaced resident of the upstairs apartment and to provide refreshments for firefighters. PA State Police Fire Marshal was on the scene to investigate.

All units were clear around 1830 hrs, with the exception of Squad 4, which remained until 1947 hrs to provide lighting and assist the bar owner with removal of property from the first floor.

SMALL GRASS FIRE ALONG ROUTE 30

October 30, 2010

Box Area 4-2
Company 4 and Ambulance 2A were dispatched at 1402 hrs to the 4500 block of Chambersburg Rd for a brush fire. Brush 4 (FF Bowling) and Engine 4-1 (FF Mason) responded with five personnel and arrived to find a 5' x 5' burnt patch of grass along the roadway with the fire already out. A line was pulled from B4 to soak down the area and all units were available at 1417 hrs.

ENGINE TRANSFER TO FAIRFIELD

Engine 4-1 was dispatched at 1443 hrs to transfer to Company 2 while they were at the scene of a hay bale fire on Iron Springs Rd in Hamiltonban Twp. E4-1 (Chief Nagle) transferred with six personnel. No calls were handled while on the transfer, however the crew did set up a fill site for tankers utilizing a hydrant at Company 2. E4-1 was available at 1549 hrs.
