Rescue 4 was placed into service as Squad 4 on October 4, 1991 and was redesignated as Rescue 4 on December 30, 2011.  It ran its first entrapment call the weekend it was placed in service at the infamous intersection of US Route 30 (Chambersburg Rd) and High St. Rescue 4 is the brainchild of several progressive members of the Department at that time who recognized the need for rescue / extrication service in the western portion of the county along the Route 30 corridor. Rescue 4 replaced the 1954 Dodge M-43 light duty rescue/support unit that was obtained through Army Surplus in 1977.
